I went to see The Revenant last night with a friend of mine...Which resulted in us talking about Titanic, obviously.
Did you know that Kate Winslet was turned down for her role as Rose, several times!
James Cameron was like "Nope, you're absolutely not what I'm looking for. Good luck and goodbye.". And you know what, our girl Kate didn't give a shit! She knew that she was meant to play this role. She knew that this role was meant for her and that no one else would care about it as much as she did, that no one else could BE this character. She knew it was made for her. So when she got to that audition and was declined, she didn't let it stop her.
She bugged James Cameron, she absolutely pestered him. He was like "You're the wrong look, the wrong size, and you're from the wrong country! I want Gwyneth!". Our girl Kate didn't care. She sent him letters, roses, left a gajillion messages on his phone, and she never gave up. We needed Kate to play that role! Could you imagine if it went to the runner-up (Eliza Dushku)?
A lot of us quit before we even get started. A lot of us don't even make it to the "NO.", our fear allows us to assume we'll get rejected and so we don't even try. She got a NO. She gave it her best shot and got a NO. And she still didn't give up!
So don't you give up. Trust that you have something unique to share that the world needs you to deliver. Trust that it will be received in the most perfect time possible. Trust that your wildest dreams have the possibility to unfold. Even kissing Leo. Don't let anyone tell you no.
You got this.
